The Arvada Center Hosts a Special One-Night Engagement “The Mitzvah Project”
ARVADA CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will host a special engagement, The Mitzvah Project, a one-person performance and lecture in the Main Stage Theatre on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The Mitzvah Project is a combination of theatre, history lesson and conversation in which actor and child of a survivor, Roger Grunwald, explores one of the most shocking aspects of the Jewish experience during the Second World War. Through the story of Christoph Rosenberg, a German half-Jew, the one-person drama — created with director and co-author Annie McGreevey — reveals the surprising history of tens of thousands of German men known as “mischlinge” — the derogatory term the Nazis used to characterize those descended from one or two Jewish grandparents — who served in Hitler’s army. After the lecture, Mr. Grunwald leads a discussion with the audience. Reserved tickets range from $25 - $35 and can be purchased by calling the Arvada Center Box Office at 720-898-7200, online at http://arvadacenter.org/the-mitzvah-project-2015 or in person at the Arvada Center Box Office. $15 student tickets can be purchased with valid ID directly through the box office and are not available online. The Arvada Center is located at 6901 Wadsworth Blvd. and provides free parking for all of its patrons.
There will also be a VIP reception with Roger Grunwald in the Black Box Theatre lobby following the presentation. The hour-long reception will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 and include the play and presentation in addition to beverages and light refreshments. Please call the Box Office at 720-898-7200 to purchase by phone or stop by in person. The VIP event is not available for online purchase. Purchase deadline is Monday, October 26. Proceeds from the reception benefit the Chabad of NW Metro Denver and the Humanities program at the Arvada Center.
Roger Grunwald has been a professional performing artist for close to four decades. His voice and face have been heard on and seen in commercials, industrials, soap operas and in major studio features, as well as in documentaries for HBO, Court Television Network, the Discovery Channel and two independent short films. In 2016, Roger will be featured in the pilot episode of VINYL, a new HBO series. The pilot was directed by Martin Scorsese who, along with Mick Jagger, executive produces the series. VINYL chronicles the drug and sex-fueled rock 'n roll scene from the 1970s. Roger is also the creator, co-writer and star of The Mitzvah Project, a Holocaust-themed one-person drama, lecture and discussion currently touring North America. Roger’s concept for The Mitzvah Project was inspired by, and is in homage to, his mother who, as an Auschwitz survivor, used her wartime experience as a tool for teaching the lessons of history to young people.
