ARVADA CENTER EARNS A RECORD 7 OVATION AWARDS

ARVADA, CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities received 7 Denver Post Ovation Awards after receiving 24 nominations encompassing every one of the Center’s 2008 theater productions. The Center was the honored recipient of the following Ovation Awards.

  • Best Musical – Arvada Center’s Les Misérables
  • Best Children’s Production – Arvada Center’s A Year With Frog and Toad
  • Best Actor in a Musical – Randal Keith, Arvada Center’s Les Misérables
  • Best Supporting Actress in a Dramatic Role – Sharon Kay White, Arvada Center’s Hollywood Arms
  • Best Supporting Actor in a Musical – Wayne Kennedy, Arvada Center’s Les Misérables
  • Best Supporting Actress in a Musical – Amy Board, Arvada Center’s Les Misérables
  • Best Ensemble – Arvada Center’s Les Misérables

Kudos goes to the Arvada Center’s own Artistic Producer, Rod Lansberry, who was nominated for the Theater Person of the Year. “I find myself so close to all of our productions. I consider every show we do award-winning,” says Rod Lansberry. “…just wait ‘til you see what we have planned for 2009.”

The Arvada Center’s remaining season of shows include:

  • THE CRUCIBLE—a gripping drama set during the Salem witch trials. February 3 – March 8, 2009
  • EVITA—the well known, larger-than-life modern musical. April 21 – May 17, 2009
  • BIG RIVER—the adventures of Huckleberry Finn, based on one of Mark Twain’s greatest novels. July 14 – August 9, 2009

  • Best Year by an Actor – Mark Rubald
    • Arvada Center’s Of Mice and Men and A Wonderful Life
  • Best Year by a Director – Nick Sugar
    • Arvada Center’s Seussical

Prior to this year and since the inception of the Ovation Awards in 2001, the Arvada Center has received a total of 15 awards. In 2007, the Center had seven nominations and received three awards (Best Actor in a Musical, Choreography and Set Design), and in 2006, had nine nominations and received one award (Best Supporting Actress in a Comic Role). In 2005, the Arvada Center garnered 21 nominations, the most for any theater at the time, and won four, including Best Year by a Company.
