Tours and activities
The Arvada Center offers many options for touring the History Museum, Art Galleries, and Outdoor Sculpture exhibition whether you are with a school group, or an independent group such as a Red Hat outing, Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop, or just an interested group of people. See below to see what we offer.
When planning a field trip, keep in mind that the History Museum and Art Galleries participate in the Arvada Center’s successful Arts Day program. In 2012, more than 6,000 area youth explored the museum and galleries with the assistance of the Center’s trained docents. Tours are meant to compliment common core standards, as well as reinforce 21st Century learning skills. We also offer three Docent-led, hands-on history activities meant to introduce students to pioneer life in Arvada. To learn more about the Arts Day program, history activities, and tours, please call 720-898-7240.
For Independent Groups of 5 or more
Docent-led tours of the Galleries and Museum are free. We ask that you inquire at least one week in advance, and tours can be led on weekdays or the weekend. Tours of all three gallery spaces typically last up to one hour, and the history museum typically lasts around a half hour. To schedule a Docent-led tour for your group outing, please call 720-898-7255.
Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
Tours of the outdoor sculpture exhibition can be Docent-led or self-guided. We can provide a study and tour guide appropriate for classrooms or independent groups that covers ideas behind modern sculpture, analysis of pieces included in the exhibition, as well as discussion questions. Audio clips from the Guide By Cell Audio tour that also accompanies the exhibition can also be requested for students to hear from the artists before or after your visit. For independent groups, the prompts are included on the exhibition map and the didactic information next to each piece.
Please email email@example.com for a digital copy of the study and tour guide, or call 720-898-7255 to schedule a docent-led tour.
Become a docent
If you like history, art and interacting with an appreciative public (especially school-age youth) you may enjoy being a docent, truly one of the most personally satisfying and rewarding volunteer services at the Arvada Center. For information call 720-898-7251.
