The Lion in Winter

By James Goldman

Directed by Philip Sneed

How dear of you to let me out of prison.” -Queen Eleanor
It's only for the holidays.” King Henry II

This sets the tone for The Lion in Winter, a caustic comedy concerning the interpersonal dynamics and political wrangling of King Henry and the royal family during the Christmas holiday of 1183. This play has all the essential ingredients for a royal British saga… a mistress for the King, sibling rivalry and familial treachery.
