Arvada Center Announces Auditions for Sunset Blvd., the Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for Sunset Blvd., the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, on Monday June 7, 2010, and Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200. Experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Dance or strong movement also needed.

Arvada Center’s Artistic Producer Rod A. Lansberry is directing this production, which opens on September 14, 2010, with Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck as choreographer and David Nehls as music director.
New York auditions will be held June 14 – 17, 2010, and Wojcik / Seay Casting will coordinate the casting. To be considered for an appointment in New York City, send a hard copy of your photo and résumé and indicate which role you are interested in, to the following address:

This is an Equity LORT B production, although non-equity actors may audition. Ethnic minorities and cultural varieties are encouraged to audition for all roles. Actors should prepare up-tempo musical theater appropriate to the production. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. No taped music or a cappella allowed. A current headshot and résumé are required. Equity members must have a current ID card.

Rehearsals for Sunset Blvd.. begin on August 24, 2010. The show runs from September 14, 2010, through October 10, 2010, Tuesday through Saturday evenings, with matinées on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, for a total of eight shows per week.

Sunset Blvd. Character Breakdown

Norma Desmond, (40 – 55), to play the silent movie star who still lives in her isolated dream world of the past. Maturely attractive and stylized in dress and manner. Strong, full vocals with clean belt. 

Joe Gillis, (30-35), to play a struggling screenwriter; not Hollywood in manner, but very Hollywood in looks. Tall, strikingly handsome, self assured, yet with a manly rugged demeanor. Must be an excellent singer with a natural film-style approach. Should be charming, with an opportunist-like quality. Excellent singer/actor required. Strong vocal, high baritone, not “pop” style.

Max von Mayerling, (50 to 60), to play the ex-film-director-turned-devoted-servant, with European accent. Excellent actor/singer required. Full, deep baritone. 

Artie , (25 – 30), to play Joe's friend, a generous, hardworking director's assistant. Clean cut professional but fun. Strong vocals, baritone/tenor.

Betty Schaefer, (20 – 25), to play Artie's fiancée, a clean-cut, bright-looking girl, in her twenties.  Sweet but sophisticated in a professional manner, a go-getter who wants to sincerely work with Joe…eventually falling for him. Must have and excellent mix singing voice. 

Cecil B DeMille, (50 – 60), to play this famous film director. Strong, imposing with a fatherly quality. Baritone voice.

Chorus of all ages and types with strong vocals and movement abilities. Ethnic minorities and cultural varieties are encouraged to audition for all roles.
