Arvada Center Announces Auditions for

A Christmas Carol, The Musical


The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for A Christmas Carol, The Musical on Monday August 2, 2010 and Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Arvada Center. This production will be directed by the Center’s Artistic Producer Rod A. Lansberry. Choreography is by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck with Musical Direction by David Nehls.

Denver adult auditions will be held on August 2 and 3, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200.

Denver children auditions will be held on August 20, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. See breakdown for more specifics and age ranges. Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200.

Experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Dance or strong movement will be needed. See breakdown for more specifics. Many roles will double or triple.

This is an Equity LORT B production, although non-equity actors may audition. Ethnic minorities and cultural varieties are encouraged to audition for all roles. Actors should prepare a musical theater number or holiday song appropriate to the production. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. No taped music or a cappella allowed. A current headshot and résumé are required. Equity members must have a current ID card.

Rehearsals for A Christmas Carol, The Musical begin on November 2, 2010. The show opens November 23, 2010 and runs through December 23, 2010, Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinées on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

BEADLE / CREDITOR    BEADLE, a worker in SCROOGE'S bank.

BOB CRATCHIT    BOB CRATCHIT, a hardworking clerk in SCROOGE'S employment. Dedicated to his family, especially his young son TINY TIM. CRATCHIT maintains a kind heart, even in the face of SCROOGE'S mean-spiritedness.
G#2 - E4 (Baritenor)

EMILY    EMILY, young, lovely, and goodhearted. Truly in love with young Ebenezer. Happy with the simple things in life - friends, family, and the joy that comes from loving someone and being loved in return.

FRED ANDERSON    FRED ANDERSON, warm and compassionate, SCROOGE'S nephew, feels sorry for the old man, yet still obligated to him, being family

GRACE SMYTHE    GRACE SMYTHE, the young daughter of MR. SMYTHE. Accompanies her father to ask Scrooge for leniency following her mother's death. Respectable, but poor.

MARLEY    JACOB MARLEY, returned from the grave to warn SCROOGE of the consequences of living the life of a miser.

MR. FEZZIWIG    MR. FEZZIWIG, a portly, jolly man. A kind-hearted bank-owner who helps Ebenezer Scrooge get his start. Later, must ask Scrooge for help and is turned away.

MR. SYMTHE    MR. SYMTHE, recently widowed and left with a young daughter, GRACE. Hopes Scrooge will be lenient and give him time to pay his debt. Respectable, but poor.

MRS. CRATCHIT    MRS. CRATCHIT, a wonderful wife and mother, hopeful and generous.

MRS. FEZZIWIG    MRS. FEZZIWIG, the cheerful wife of MR. FEZZIWIG the banker. Happy to reach out and help her fellow man. Later, become poor and can't understand why Scrooge won't help her husband.

OLD JOE    OLD JOE, a ragpicker who scavenges off the dead.

SALLY ANDERSON    SALLY ANDERSON, the wife of SCROOGE'S nephew FRED. Tired of having "UNCLE SCROOGE" over for Christmas dinner each year.

SCROOGE    EBENEZER SCROOGE, an old man whose great wealth has turned his heart to stone. Deaf to the needs of his fellow men, SCROOGE must journey through his past to regain the spirit of charity and kindness he had as a young man.

SCROOGE AT 12    SCROOGE AT 12, a poor orphan who works all day at a boot-making factory. Tired of poverty, he vows to save his money and make his fortune. He desperately misses his parents and wants to find a home of his own.

SCROOGE AT 18    SCROOGE AT 18, saving his money and running from a life of poverty, YOUNG EBENEZER is still happy and sociable and deeply in love with EMILY. He is still searching for a place to call home, but has found a second family in the FEZZIWIGS.
