How to Remain A Humanist After a Massacre
by Maya Arad Yassur
The haunting 20-minute play opens with two prologues set on the morning of October 7th. It then sharply transforms into a ‘how to’ course in maintaining humanity in the aftermath of barbarism; poignantly capturing the moment when everything changed for the people of Israel, Gaza, and way beyond.
It sets the stage for crucial conversations about the world’s most combustible conflict and enforces that essential reminder: ‘There are mothers on both sides.’ The play has been presented broadly in Europe, generating intense, widespread word-of-mouth and profoundly emotional responses.
Ami Dayan directs the reading, with a cast featuring Wendy Ishii, Tamara Meneghini, Lisa Bornstein, and Mari Brown.
The event will also include a poetry reading with work by Palestinian poets Mahmoud Darwish, Taha Muhammad Ali, Rashid Hussein, and Refaat Alareer. It will be followed by a facilitated panel discussion with local journalists, educators, political and faith leaders - to be announced.
