Arvada Center Volunteer Positions
The Arvada Center is the largest multi-disciplinary cultural center in the United States . Because of the many offerings available at the Arvada Center , the Volunteer Program provides many opportunities for volunteers to be involved in their areas of interest and utilizing their skills and abilities. Since the Arvada Center has opportunities available days and evenings, weekdays and weekends, most volunteers can find a schedule that meets their needs. The primary volunteer programs are briefly defined below so that you can help decide on the area that best meets your desire for volunteering, and best utilizes your qualifications. ALL volunteers are required to pass a background investigation prior to being assigned to a position within the Arvada Center .
ARTS DAY - Volunteers assist school children by meeting and greeting the buses, and helping school groups to get from one scheduled workshop to another. Usually, while a group is in a workshop, the volunteer will have a period of down time until the group is ready to move on. However, this volunteer is often called upon during such times to assist with various needs from instructors or other Arts Day faculty. This volunteer should be comfortable with children of varying ages, as well as children with special needs/disabilities. A preferred volunteer should enjoy assisting children with craft projects. Arts Days typically run from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday through Friday during the school year. However, this program is expanding and other weekday times may become available in the future. Volunteers are required to volunteer for at least two shifts per month during the school year.
SCHOOL GROUP CHAPERONE - School Group Chaperones are assigned to specific school groups and provide curb to curb service. They meet the assigned school group at the bus, give a brief introductory speech welcoming them and go over theater etiquette. They bring the group to the theater doors and check in with the House Manager as to where to seat their group. They escort the group into the theater and get them seated. After the show, the chaperones meet the group in the theater, help them facilitate bathroom breaks, lunches, etc. and then escort them back to their bus.
DOCENT - Volunteers lead tours of Gallery and Museum exhibitions to both children and adult groups. They also lead tours and special activities for the Arts Day program. Continuous training and research are a large part of the Docent program. Docents sign up to lead tours as required, including days, evenings, weekdays, and weekends. They are required to attend scheduled meetings and volunteer at least six shifts per year.
FRONT DESK WILL CALL - Volunteers hand out will call tickets to theater patrons. Volunteers sign up for scheduled shifts held during the approximately 35 weeks that theatrical productions are open. Shifts are available evenings, mornings, and afternoons Tuesdays through Sundays.
GALLERY INTERPRETER - Gallery Interpreters support the goals of the Exhibition and Gallery program by creating a positive and welcoming experience in the galleries for patrons of all ages and backgrounds. Interpreters are provided with resources in order to interact with patrons and offer educational information which will enable them to make meaningful connections with art.
HOSPITALITY - Volunteers provide refreshments prior to curtain and during the intermission of theatre events. Refreshments include: beer, wine, coffee, tea, sodas, candies, and assorted cookies. Volunteers sign up for scheduled shifts held during the approximately 35 weeks that theatrical productions are open. They may also be asked to work other special receptions or events, or summer amphitheater concerts.
USHERS - Volunteer ushers provide many Front of House services during events for the Main Stage Theater, Black Box Theater and Ampitheater. As part of the Patron Services Division, ushers are committed to providing a memorable and enjoyable experience for Arvada Center patrons. Services provided by the volunteer usher staff include greeting patrons, answering questions regarding the current performance and the Arvada Center in general, taking tickets, distributing programs, checking out ADA equipment and materials, executing emergency procedures (such as evacuations) and assisting patrons in finding their seats. Ushers must be comfortable working in low-level lighting and be able to maneuver stairs quickly and continuously for up to 45 minutes at a time. There are opportunities for both daytime and evening shifts with shifts typically lasting three to four hours. In order to maintain an active status ushers commit to a minimum of two shifts for each theatrical production, or approximately 14 shifts a year. A minimum one year commitment is requested.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Arvada Center. Please send all inquiries about volunteering to our Volunteer Coordinator, Michelle Osgood at email@example.com or call 720-898-7211.
