Jefferson Symphony International Young Artists Competition and Recital

January 7 - January 7, 2012

The Arvada Center is proud to co-sponsor the 53rd Jefferson Symphony International Young Artists Competition.

The top three winners of the 2012 competition will perform on:

Saturday, January 7, 2012
7:30 p.m.
Arvada Center (event co-sponsor)
6901 Wadsworth Blvd
Arvada, CO 80003

The evening performance will follow a full day of competition for the 13 finalists who were recently selected from the first round of competition.

Finalists will compete for a $5,000 annuity (payable at $1,000 per year for five years) to the first-place winner, as well as cash prizes of $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000 to the first-, second- and third- place awardees. The Golden Civic Foundation, Wilmot Charitable Trust, Kinder Morgan and Fine Arts Foundation help to underwrite the competition.

A rare opportunity to hear rising stars in the world of classical music will occur throughout the day at the final (live) round of the annual competition. It takes place at the Arvada Center from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend any or all auditions at no charge. Judges will announce the winners late that day.

Tickets for the evening recital featuring the three finalists can be purchased by calling the Arvada Center at 720-898-7200 or clicking the BUY TICKETS NOW button above. $5 Children's tickets (for children ages 12 and under) may be purchased through the Arvada Center Box Office by phone or in person only.

Most finalists play the violin, but marimba, flute, clarinet and cello will also be heard. The competition schedule will be posted online at www.jeffsymphony.org, showing compositions to be played and audition times.

Among the 13 finalists are students from top music schools across the continent, including the Colburn Conservatory (Los Angeles, CA), Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY), Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), The Juilliard School (New York, NY) and Manhattan School of Music (New York, NY). They range in age from 17 to 23 and come from several countries. One Colorado college student (at the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver) and one recent Colorado high school graduate are finalists, as is a high school student from Canada.

The first-place winner will perform in concert with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in March, 2011.

This is the 53rd Jefferson Symphony Young Artists Competition. The annual event alternates between piano and all other orchestral instruments.
