The Arvada Center Announces Auditions for La Cage Aux Folles

ARVADA, CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for the Broadway hit musical La Cage Aux Folles on Tuesday, July 31 and Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Arvada Center. This production will be directed by Artistic Producer Rod A. Lansberry.


Equity auditions will be held on July 31 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Open auditions will be held on July 31 from 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and August 1 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200.


New York auditions will be held August 6 – 8, 2007. EPA auditions will be held on Monday, August 6, Chorus Auditions on Tuesday, August 7 and by appointment on Wednesday, August 8. New York casting by GHSCasting@aol.com.


Experienced performers with strong acting, singing and dancing abilities, including the ability to dance in heels, are needed. This is an equity LORT B production, although non-equity actors may audition. Actors should prepare 16 – 32 bars of up-tempo popular musical theater appropriate to the production. Auditioners should know the complete song but may only be required to perform 16 bars. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. No taped music or acappella allowed. A current headshot and resume are required. Equity members must have a current ID card.


Rehearsals for La Cage Aux Folles begin on October 30, 2007. The show opens November 20 and runs through December 23, 2007, Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

Character Descriptions for La Cage Aux Folles

Georges—Lead role, age 40 – 55. Host of the La Cage aux Folles drag queen show, Albin's partner of 20 years, and father of Jean-Michel. Mature and attractive. Must move well. Baritone.


Albin—Age 40 – 55. Moody, cross-dressing star of the nightclub show with the stage name of Zaza. Also Georges' partner for 20 years and basically Jean-Michel's mother. Baritone.


Anne Dindon—Age 18 – 26. Jean-Michel's beautiful fiancé and the daughter of Edouard. Must be a strong dancer.


Edouard Dindon—Age 50 – 65. Ann's pompous father, the deputy general of the Tradition, Family and Morality Party who strongly dislikes drag clubs and homosexuality. Baritone.


Jacob—Age 21 – 40. The maid/butler for Georges and Albin. A real 'ham' who desperately wants to perform onstage at La Cage aux Folles. Medium dance skills. Baritone.


Jean-Michel— Age 18 – 26. Georges' son who is about to marry Anne, the girl he loves. Well-mannered and handsome. Baritone.


Madame Marie Dindo—Age 45 – 55. Edouard's high-society yet sexually starved wife. Soprano.


Angelique, Chantal, Etienne—Featured Cagelles. Strong vocal and dance skills. Must be able to tap in heels.


Jacqueline—Age 35 – 55. Hostess of the restaurant Chez Jacqueline and dear friend of Albin. Mezzo .


Mme. Renaud—Age 40 – 60. Café owner and friend of Georges and Albin.


Francis
—Age 25 – 40. The stage manager in Georges' club. Character actor with strong comedic timing.


Les Cagelles—Ages 18 – 55. Performers in the drag queen show. Very strong male dancers and must be able to dance in heels.
