Denny Dent retrospective complements concert series

ARVADA, CO - Chris Isaak and Concrete Blonde have been added to the lineup at the Arvada Center's Summer at the Center 2010, 13 weeks of performances that include Summer Stage, a programming partnership with concert promoter Nobody In Particular Presents (NIPP); CenterFest, a creative collaboration with local Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) organizations; and Arvada Center Presents, unique programming with concerts, theater, and art exhibitions including a retrospective by Denny Dent, the renowned speed painter, who died in 2004.

The Summer Stage concert series is the Arvada Center's first alliance with NIPP, one of the nation's most successful independent promoters, and features top-musical performers that include John Hiatt & The Combo and Los Lobos, The Neville Brothers, and Joan Baez. Chris Isaak and Concrete Blond have recently been added to the lineup. All events take place at the Arvada Center's 1,500-capacity outdoor amphitheater. CenterFest is a unique collaboration that brings together SCFD organizations at the Arvada Center on Thursday nights throughout the summer and features the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Jefferson Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Ballet Nouveau, and Colcannon, to name only
a few.

Complementary gallery exhibitions include never-before-seen works by Denny Dent. The renowned speed painter, who died in Colorado in 2004, is especially remembered for his high-energy, large-scale celebrity portraits. Also included in the Arvada Center's visual arts lineup this summer (June 10-August 29) are works by painter, printmaker, and sculptor Amalie R. Rothschild.

The Arvada Center's musical theater production - All Shook Up, directed by Christy Montour-Larson highlights the moves and music of rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley (July 13-August 8, 2010). For a current listing of concerts and events, visit SummerAtTheCenter.com.

The Lettermen
Friday, June 4, 7:30 p.m.

The Lettermen scored their first chart hit "The Way You Look Tonight," a number previously associated with Fred Astaire. The trio enjoyed another 19 U.S. chart singles, including the Top 10 hits "When I Fall In Love" and the medley "Goin' Out Of My Head"/"Can't Take My Eyes Off You." Later they were rated the leading adult contemporary vocal group of the 60s.

Concrete Blonde
Monday, June 21, 7:30 p.m.
Concrete Blonde grew out of the Los Angeles post-punk club circuit that produced bands like X and the Go-Go's. The group was founded by singer/songwriter/bassist Johnette Napolitano and guitarist Jim Mankey. Their hit album "Bloodletting" gained them wide recognition with songs like 'Joey, and 'Tomorrow Wendy.' "Bloodletting" will be performed in its entirety for the Arvada Center performance.

Cowboy Junkies

Friday, June 25, 7:30 p.m.

This Canadian alternative country band released The Trinity Session in 1988 with their compelling version of Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane." The group's dark, beguiling music was a precursor to what we now call Americana.

Joan Baez

Friday, July 9, 7:30 p.m.

Vocalist Joan Baez is a musical force whose global influence is immeasurable - she marched on the front lines of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, Jr.; inspired Vaclav Havel in his fight for a Czech Republic; sang on the first Amnesty International tour; and recently stood alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London's Hyde Park.

BeauSoleil & Buckwheat Zydeco

Saturday, July 10, 7:30 p.m.

Since 1976, BeauSoleil has elevated Cajun music to international acclaim. The Grammy-nominated band takes the rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana and artfully blends elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues and more into a satisfying musical recipe. Buckwheat Zydeco - stage name of Stanley Dural, Jr., a foremost American accordionist and Grammy-winning zydeco musician - joins the band for a night of dancin' music!

Los Lonely Boys

Sunday, August 1, 7:30 p.m.

This family band is a rock 'n' roll institution - from the Everly Brothers and the Beach Boys to the Black Crowes and Hanson. There's something special about the unstudied perfection of sibling vocal harmonies that creates a distinctive, irresistible style.

Chris Isaak

Throughout his impressive recording career, Chris Isaak has tunefully and artfully explored the good, the bad and the ugly of love, as well as other matters of profound human interest. He has done so with an abiding respect for popular music's past, but at the same time with clear and vital passion fort he hear and now.

John Hiatt & The Combo and Los Lobos

Friday, August 13, 7:30 p.m.

Grammy-nominated John Hiatt is a rock guitarist, pianist, singer and songwriter whose stylistically varied songs have captured the imaginations of Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, Three Dog Night, The Neville Brothers, Willie Nelson and many others. Hiatt joins Los Lobos, a band that builds on the blues, rockabilly, jazz, Latin and their own Mexican-American heritage, subtly challenge their fans with conscience-raising songs and thought-provoking lyrics.

The Neville Brothers

Tuesday, August 17, 7:30 p.m.

The differences among the four Neville Brothers are as dramatic as the similarities that unite them, including a passionate funk and a feeling for blues-soaked, deep-pocket grooves that form the basis of their influence in our cultural history.

Asleep at the Wheel
