Arvada Center Presents Summer Musical, “All Shook Up”

June 23, 2010

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities presents the musical theater production, “All Shook Up,” July 13 to August 8, 2010, as part of its Summer at the Center, a full line up of cultural events and performances.

A mash-up of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” meets “Music Man” meets “Pleasantville,” “All Shook Up” is set in a sad, lovesick town “somewhere” in the Midwest in the 1950s. The town begins to come alive when Chad, a young, handsome roustabout, rides into town on his motorcycle and touches a broken down jukebox.

“All Shook Up,” the 2005 Broadway musical comedy inspired by 24 Elvis Presley songs, comes from a book by Joe DiPietro, with rich orchestrations by Michael Gibson and Stephen Oremus. The Arvada Center is proud to be the first regional theater in Colorado to produce “All Shook Up,” and the all-new, originally created production stars Eric Ulloa as “Chad” and Lindsay Nicole Chambers as “Natalie,” and is directed by Christy Montour-Larson.

A seasoned director locally and nationally, Ms. Montour-Larson has directed more than 70 productions, from Shakespeare to Pinter, to musicals, to some of the newest plays on the theater scene today. She was the assistant director for the Arvada Center’s 2008 award-winning production of “Les Miserable,” and in November 2009, directed “Well” by Lisa Kron at the Denver Center Theatre Company. A resident of Denver for more than 10 years, she is actively involved at the Curious Theatre Company in Denver and is an affiliate faculty member in the theater department at Metropolitan State College at Denver.

“‘All Shook Up,’ is the perfect summer musical for us,” said Rod. A. Lansberry, artistic producer for the Arvada Center. “With great music, big dance numbers, and a story that makes everyone feel good, there is no better way to end another successful theater season.”

This rock-and-roll musical ties into Summer at the Center, the Arvada Center’s full summer line up of live performances at the outdoor amphitheater and the three gallery exhibitions, which include the first-ever Denny Dent retrospective, 20 national and local convergence painters, and a photographic memoir of rock-and-roll legends taken at the Fillmore East by Amalie R. Rothschild.

The Arvada Center’s expanded 2010-2011 theater season kicks off on September 14, 2010, with one of the first regional theater productions in the U.S. of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Blvd.”
