Audition Information

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for Pete the Cat on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada, CO 80003. Callbacks will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026.

If you have been previously cast in the last two Arvada Center TYA productions, you DO NOT need to attend the local general auditions. If you are interested in being considered, please use this link to submit your headshot to the Production Tools folder.

General Audition Requirements:

Needed are local non-equity experienced performers with strong character, vocal, and dance skills. The actors will portray various characters. Roles are non-equity, paid positions.

Actors should prepare:

Please prepare a one-minute monologue appropriate for Theatre for Young Audiences and 16 – 32 bars of an up-tempo musical theatre piece not from the show. A current résumé and headshot are required to be uploaded into Production Tools.

Production Details and Character Breakdown

Production Details

Rehearsals for Pete the Cat will begin on Wednesday, January 6, 2027, rehearsing weekdays from 9 AM – 5 PM. The Main Stage production opens on Tuesday, January 26, running through February 26, 2027. Performances are Monday through Friday at 10:00 AM and noon, and various Saturdays at 11 AM and 1 PM.  Black Box transfer rehearsals start April 12, 2027, and the Black Box performances run Friday, April 16 through Friday, May 7, 2027, and are Tuesday through Friday at 10 AM and noon, and Saturdays at 11 AM and 1 PM.

Complete Rehearsal & Performance Schedule

Seeking a cast of six with an additional three teaching artist swings: six female-presenting, two male-presenting, two female-presenting swings/teaching artists and one male-presenting swing/teaching artist.  Any of the roles can be non-binary.

Actors will portray multiple characters and will be asked to understudy other roles. The multiple characters and understudies are subject to change until casting has been finalized.

All actors will be asked to participate in Peek Into the Production, a talkback program for student audiences.

Character Breakdown - all characters will be played by adult actors 18 years and older.

Actor 1- Pete the Cat - A super zen, rocking cat who lives in a VW Bus. He goes with the flow. Vocal Range B2 to B4, possibly C5.

Actor 2 - Jimmy Biddle - A very put-together second grader. He likes to prepare and tends to overthink things. Vocal Range D3 to Ab4, possibly C5.

Actor 3 - Olive Biddle/Eloise (a student) - Olive is Jimmy's rambunctious sister. In Pre-K. She just loves everyone and everything. Vocal Range A3 to A5, possibly C5.

Actor 4 - Mom/Grumpy Toad/Mrs. Creech - Jimmy's nervous mom. Secretly, a rock star. Vocal Range Bb3 to Bb5, possibly Db6.

Actor 5 - Dad/Gus the Platypus/Barnaby (a student) - Jimmy's nervous dad. Secretly, a rock star. Vocal Range Bb2 to Bb4, possibly Db5 falsetto.

Actor 6 - Cat Catcher/Shark/Mona Lisa/Astronaut/US-Jimmy - Vocal Range D3 to Ab4, possibly C5.

Swing #1** - Covers Pete the Cat, Jimmy and Dad Tracks. Gender: Male-presenting or non-binary

Swing #2** Covers Olive Tracks, Mom Tracks, Pete the Cat. Gender: Female-presenting or non-binary.

Swing #3** - Covers Olive Tracks, Mom Track, Actor 6 Tracks. Gender: Female-presenting or non-binary.

**For this production we are casting three TEACHING ARTIST SWINGS, who will be responsible for knowing their swing tracks, as well as facilitating school programs workshops and the “Peek into the Production” program between shows. Teaching Artist Swings are expected to be present at all rehearsals. Once the production opens, Teaching Artists Swings will watch one show a week and facilitate the “Peek into the Production” program and workshops at other times during the week.  Teaching Artist Swings will need to be onsite for all Saturday performances and participate in the “Peek into the Production” program after each performance as needed. Teaching Artists Swings will be paid the same as the actors who are cast in the show, and will receive training from the Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities Education Department.
