To answer this question and to read our descriptions of each group and look for the Instrument Proficiency section. If you aren’t sure, you may want to take these standards to your private teacher for guidance. You can also be considered for more than one orchestra. If you are considering auditioning for two orchestras, for example, the Young Artists Orchestra and the Conservatory Orchestra, be sure to prepare the repertoire for the higher level orchestra and only audition one time. You will only be placed in one ensemble.
Each group rehearses once a week throughout the season (August – May) with dress rehearsals leading up to performances. It is expected that young artists in our program attend all of these rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances. For more information on when each group rehearses, check out the group’s description.
Review our ensemble descriptions and focus on the Instrument Proficiency section to find the best fit. If you're uncertain, consider sharing these standards with your private teacher for guidance.
When preparing for your audition, choose the repertoire for the group you feel is the best match for your skill level. Our conductors will assess your performance and may place you in a different ensemble if they feel it aligns better with your ability and the overall level of each group.
For any questions before signing up for an audition, feel free to reach out to the FRYS Coordinator, Scottie Woodard, at swoodard@arvadacenter.org.
