Join us for an entertaining and energetic afternoon of tap performances from active adult tap groups throughout Colorado. Since 2000, this National Tap Dance Day celebration has been dedicated to celebrating tap dance as an art form, and as exercise for all ages and abilities.
National Tap Dance Day falls on May 25 each year to honor the art form and the legendary tap dancer, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (whose birthday was May 25, 1878). It's a celebration of tap dance as an American art form.
The idea of National Tap Dance Day was first presented to the U.S. Congress on February 7, 1989, and was signed into US American Law by President George H. W. Bush.
In the Denver/Metro area, our National Tap Dance Day was established in 2000 by Ron Terrell, a tap instructor for Westminster Parks and Recreation. This event has always been invitational and has included troupes from Berthoud to Littleton. After a four-year pause due to the pandemic, National Tap Dance Day returned in 2024 with 9 participating troupes and 130 performers.
