He ended last year performing in the Soulshine benefit that raised money for Hurricane Helene and Milton relief, and started this year playing at one of the biggest live events of all - the Super Bowl, performing “America the Beautiful” with fellow Louisianans Lauren Daigle, Jon Batiste, and Harry Connick, Jr.
With the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (a.k.a Jazz Fest) starting April 24, and Shorty’s own Jazz Fest performance on May 4th, we are already getting in the mood for his “Might Not Make It Home Tour” stop at the Arvada Center on June 18.
Born to a musical family (his mother Lois Nelson Andrews encouraged young musicians and was nicknamed “The Mother of Music”), multi-instrumentalist Trombone Shorty began playing trombone because “the family already had a trumpet player.” By the age of four, Bo Diddley was bringing him onstage to play at Jazz Fest. By six, Shorty was a bandleader. He attended New Orleans Center for Creative Arts alongside fellow musician Jon Batiste, who he has shared many stages with.
Throughout his vibrant career, Trombone Shorty has played with almost everyone you can think of - from Lenny Kravitz to Allen Toussaint to Zac Brown Band to Rod Stewart to U2 to Jeff Beck to Ringo Starr - it’s a serious list! Get in the party mood with this playlist, then grab your tickets for Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue with The Soul Rebels on June 18 in the Arvada Center Outdoor Amphitheatre.
