An Update from the Band

The Subdudes will perform at the Arvada Center as scheduled on Sunday, August 17. The Subdudes' bassist Johnny Ray Allen passed away on Friday, August 8 in New Orleans. John Magnie, Tommy Malone and Steve Amedee, the band's other original members announce that Sunday's concert will be a tribute to Allen. The show will present an opportunity for the band's many long-time Colorado fans to gather in remembrance of Allen. The band was based in Colorado for key milestones such as the signing of its first major record deal. Magnie, Malone and Amedee plan to begin their set on Sunday as a trio. They will then be joined by Tim Cook, Subdudes bassist from 2002 to 2012.

They're back! Tommy Malone, John Magnie, Steve Amedee and Johnny Ray Allen - the original lineup of The Subdudes - are going on the road for the first time in 17 years.

In 1987, four musicians got together for what they envisioned would be a one-time performance at Tipitina’s in New Orleans. It was a night of mostly acoustic music – sparse instrumentation with a strong emphasis on songwriting and vocal harmonies. The show far exceeded expectations, and on that March night The Subdudes were born.

Opening with

The high-altitude town of Fort Collins, Colorado is abundant in bicycles, awash in craft beer and rich in arts of all kinds. Understanding the town’s unique cultural brew begins (but only begins) to explain the novel sound of SHEL. Four sisters, raised in an atmosphere of creative freedom and diligent study, have honed their musical skills surgically sharp and blended their personalities and visions into a unified whole. They are a vocal group with outstanding instrumental capabilities and an instrumental group with a thrilling vocal attack. From their fetching, unpredictable songs to their whimsical, hand-made top hats, SHEL makes a profound impression, something they are doing to growing crowds and critical acclaim.

Subdudes Bio Continued

Nearly 10 years later, after releasing five critically acclaimed albums and building a hard-core cadre of fans through relentless touring, The Subdudes called it quits. Spinoff projects ensued, as did the occasional reunion show. About five years later, three of the guys decided to get back together. They recruited some friends and hit the road for the rest of the decade before taking another break.

Now, starting in 2014, they’re giving it another go. This time it’s the original lineup for the first time in 17 years, playing a few select shows.  And after nearly 30 years, still nobody in the world sounds like them.
