A Meal From Away - A Community Meal Event

Like the characters in Come From Away, we know that sharing a meal is more than just what we eat - it’s how we connect, listen, and celebrate being part of a global family.

This special community event, supported by The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation, is an opportunity to share a meal, share stories, and celebrate the power of community.

This event features four dishes made by chefs curated by Cocina Libre. During the meal, Cocina Libre’s founders will hold a conversation about migration, identity, resilience, and the role of food in cultural preservation and resistance. Together, we’ll reflect on the musical’s themes of radical hospitality and connection after fear or tragedy. Each of the 4 featured chefs will speak on their experience, inviting reflection, connection, and actionable steps for supporting immigrant communities.

Cocina Libre is a social enterprise that uplifts immigrant stories to build belonging and community for all. They celebrate immigrant stories through food, featuring community workshops, a bilingual cookbook, and a documentary.

About Dr. Julia Roncoroni

Dr. Julia Roncoroni is a psychologist, professor at the University of Denver, and the founder of Cocina Libre. Born in Argentina and shaped by migration, she created Cocina Libre as a way to bring together food, storytelling, and community care. Through cookbooks, films, and shared meals, her work centers immigrant voices and explores how food carries memory, resistance, and belonging. Julia believes kitchens can be classrooms—and that stories told over food can change how we see one another.
