This fall, the Arvada Center's kiln yard is undergoing an exciting and much-needed construction upgrade - limiting the classes we can offer in our ceramics studio this semester. In lieu of our regular fall ceramics classes, the Arvada Center is holding 4 special workshop sessions starting this November! These classes are available to current Arvada Center ceramics students only, and space in them is limited.

November 14 - December 19 (6 weeks), Mondays 6:30 - 9:30pm
In this six week class, students learn cone 6 oxidation decorating techniques for small thrown or hand built functional work including cups, tumblers, bowls, and vases. We utilize clear or translucent glaze to highlight color, textures, slip trailing, inlay, etching, carving, and underglaze painting. Students of all skill levels are welcome. Instructor: Heidi Meissner.

November 14 - December 19 (6 weeks), Mondays 6:30 - 9:30pm
Students in this class learn a variety of handbuilding and sculpture techniques, including coil, pinch, and slab, to create sculpture using a red, low-fire clay. Pieces created in this class are finished with slips, underglazes and glazes, and fired to cone 04 in an electric kiln. Students of all skill levels are welcome. Instructor: Bradley Sweatt

November 15 - December 20 (6 weeks), Tuesdays 1:00 - 4:00pm
In this class, we focus on the use of underglazes and slips to add color and emphasize pattern to the surface of both wheel thrown and handbuilt pieces. Students learn to use texture to create patterns that can be decorated. Demonstrations include the use of the extruder to create pieces, a method of adding texture to a slab and then finishing on the wheel, carving patterns, and using raised slip designs. Pieces created during this class will be finished with a clear glaze and fired to cone 6. November 16 - December 21 (6 weeks), Wednesdays 5:30 - 8:30pm
This class focuses on the process of monoprinting color and design onto functional thrown or handbuilt forms using slips and underglazes. Instruction includes creating forms and how to design, apply, and finish the surface design. Students use a dark mid-fire clay body that is fired at cone 6 oxidation. Students of all skill levels are welcome. Instructor: Megan Ratchford
