California-born and Nashville-located, Grammy-winning Molly Tuttle was the first woman to ever win the International Bluegrass Music Award’s Guitar Player of the Year award - and anyone who has seen her perform knows it is a recognition well-deserved. Her most recent album So Long Little Miss Sunshine shows her stretching her musical chops by playing banjo for the first time on an album. With this recent album, Tuttle decided to do whatever she wanted, and recorded both eleven originals and one surprising cover of Icona Pop and Charli xcx’s dance-pop hit “I Love It.”
She plays over 100 shows a year, and claims to own “more wigs than I do guitars.” Due to an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata, Tuttle has been bald since she was three years old. She is known for taking off her wig at her shows in an act that is bold, defiant, and frankly, quite punk rock for a bluegrass player.
Tuttle can also be heard on The Beatles legend Ringo Starr’s recent release “Look Up” and even played with him on his televised Ringo & Friends shows that were recorded at the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry.
