The Arvada Center Dance Academy’s version of Cinderella demonstrates that courage and kindness always prevail over selfishness. The ballet begins as Ella remembers the wonderful days when both her parents were alive. Every night she dreams of the books her father read to her and the stories her mother spun, especially the one of a Fairy Godmother. When Ella is a teen, her mother dies unexpectedly. After a time, her father remarries; his new wife is self-centered, and her daughters are spoiled and ill-behaved. One sad day, a page delivers news that Ella’s father has died in a tragic accident.
Now orphaned, Ella is truly alone and unloved. In short order, her stepmother fires the servants and demands that Ella take over all the farm and household chores. In Stepmother’s eyes Ella is now a servant and as such must sleep in the kitchen by the fire. Each morning Ella awakens to find herself covered in cinder ashes. Her stepsisters treat her with contempt and mockingly call her Cinderella. Life is harsh for Ella, but her mother taught her to have courage and to always be kind. Unbeknownst to Ella, her Fairy Godmother is nearby to help.
