In the mid-1960’s, classically-trained pianist and vocalist Felix Cavaliere quickly rose to the top as his band The Rascals produced hit after hit, their pioneering rock-driven sound influenced by music heard in the Bronx standing out from the pop of the British Invasion bands. Armed with a Hammond B-3 organ and a distinct blue-eyed soul voice, hits like “Good Lovin’” and R&B-influenced “Groovin’”made The Rascals one of the most popular bands of the time; that popularity continues on through the decades, and culminated in Steven Van Zandt inducting them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Never one to shy from sharing their beliefs, The Rascals gained their biggest hit with the politically-charged “People Got To Be Free,” a song pleading for tolerance and freedom for all that is relevant even today. Even covers of their songs like Grateful Dead’s “Good Lovin’” and Pat Benatar’s rendition of “You Better Run” have become hits; the strength of the music really shows in its ability to continue bringing new audiences in decades later. After The Rascals dissolved, Felix went on to record multiple highly acclaimed solo albums, toured with Ringo Starr’s Third All-Starr Band, and continues to write music as part of the active Nashville songwriting community. He is currently on tour with Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals.
