Denver Post Theater Review Critic John Moore says “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” is a “cheerful, kid-pleasing musical” and “makes for another wonderful, family-friendly offering from the Arvada Center’s children’s theater wing”. 1
Ordinary kid, Stanley Lambchop is asleep in bed one night when a falling bulletin board flattens him. This musical follows him as he travels the world after mailing himself in an envelope and strives to become 3D again – following along in the same footsteps, and envelopes, as the book series that was started in 1964.
The musical version, directed by Billie McBride, features pop-culture references to Harry Potter, Darth Vader, and Star Wars – to name a few – to keep the story line fresh and current for today’s young theater goers.
Amazing costume and set design from Arvada Center’s Brian Mallgrave and an adventurous ‘be yourself and have fun at it message’ is sure to entertain kids of all ages.
“Flat Stanley” encores at the Arvada Center the Fall 2011 season. Watch the video below that features the story, the singing and excitement of the Spring 2011 production.
